SUMMARY:Design Justice North #2
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the next meeting of the Design Justice North – a Design Justice Network node for the north of England. \nAbout this event: \n\n\n\nThe Design Justice Network is an international community of people who interested in and affected by design and its application. \nIt challenges the ways that design and designers can harm those who are marginalised through creating systems of power\, and tries to create a world that is safer\, more just and sustainable. The network is underpinned by nodes of practitioners and advocates who uphold the principles of design justice. \nAfter a couple of meetings in early 2022\, we’ve decided to form a Design Justice Node for the North of England. Please join us for our second session where we’ll present one or two projects we’re individually working on and explore how the Design Justice principles inform or may inform what we’re doing. \nIf you’re totally new and are interesting in joining us or finding out more\, please do come along – everyone is welcome! \nIf you want to find out more about the Design Justice Network or find a node local to you\, you can do so on the DJN website. \nImportant information: \nThis event will take place online via Zoom. We will send out a link to join the session on the morning of the event and 30 minutes before the start time. \nFind out more and register here. If you have any questions or accessibility needs\, please get in touch with Sam at Open Data Manchester.

SUMMARY:Digital Solutions Hub - Stakeholder Workshops
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of these workshops is to understand potential users needs around accessing and using environmental and earth science data and integrating this with other social\, economic\, environmental and health data. \n\n\nAbout this event: \n\n\n\nWe are looking to speak with anyone who has an interest in finding\, accessing and using earth science or environmental data to support their work. You don’t need to be a ‘data person’ but you might be. \n\nWe’re interested to learn what challenges you face in finding\, accessing and using this kind of data\, what value there is for you in this kind of data and what support you might need to make the most of this kind of data in your work. \nThese online workshops are the beginning of our user research and there will be further opportunities to engage in future workshops (both online and in person) to shape this exciting project. \n\nFind out more and register here.

SUMMARY:Exploring the brand-new Open 3P Data Standard
DESCRIPTION:It’s been almost two years since we joined a consortium of organisations that thought better data sharing might help tackle the UK’s million-tonne plastic-waste problem. \nOver this time\, our mission was expanded beyond plastics\, and we are very excited to share the brand-new\, industry-led data standard for all commonly used packaging materials – the Open 3P Data Standard. \nThere’s lots of information about the what\, the why and the what’s next on our blog – and you can join a free\, open webinar on the standard\, being held in collaboration with IOM3\, on Monday 2pm to 3.30pm (BST). \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Join a 'legislative theatre' to help shape people's rights on the streets of Trafford
DESCRIPTION:Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt unsafe in the streets\, parks\, or transport in Trafford or anywhere in Greater Manchester? If you want to tackle gendered violence and make our public spaces safer and more welcoming for women\, girls\, and all residents? If you wish you had more power to change the rules in Trafford and GM? \nPart of the Right to the Streets Project with Trafford Council and GreaterSport\, this event is being led by a group of north Trafford young people and adults who’ve been building a play that reflects their lived experiences with safety in parks\, on public transport\, near schools\, on the roads\, and more. They invite you to join them for a fun and lively Legislative Theatre event – to change the rules together! \nWhat is Legislative Theatre? \nIn Legislative Theatre\, audiences and policymakers watch a play based on the community actors’ experiences with oppressive policies and practices. Then\, audiences act onstage to rehearse ways to confront the problems presented\, and test new policies in real time. Actors and audiences propose ideas for new laws\, rules and policies to address the problems\, working together with advocates\, organisers\, and government representatives. Finally\, we vote on new rules\, and policymakers commit to immediate actions. \nWhat to expect \nThis event will appeal to people interested in participatory approaches to making change in their community\, and anyone interested in public space and active lives\, whether you’re a young person\, adult\, community advocate\, policymaker\, or all of the above. \nDuring the Legislative Theatre process\, we will #WatchActProposeVote\, lasting roughly three hours\, but we will give you breaks and promise a tasty meal and dessert to celebrate at the end of the voting! \nFor dietary requirements and any questions\, please contact Katy at katy@katyrubin.com. Follow @righttothestreets_ on Instagram for more updates \n\nBook your free spot here.

SUMMARY:Data Horror Stories!
DESCRIPTION:Toy Story 2’s production famously lost a couple of months’ work due to an accidental and erroneous command being executed. \nIn 1999\, the Mars Orbiter Climate spacecraft crashed because engineers used computer software which produced output in non-SI units of pound-force seconds (lbf·s) instead of the SI units of newton-seconds \nAnd virtually every day we hear of data that has been breached\, lost or just collected badly. \nData Horror Stories is a night for sharing YOUR scary data-based tales among a group who share your pain. \nWe have a number of five-minute slots available\, so if you have a story or cautionary tale that you’d like to share\, drop an email to sam[at]opendatamanchester.org.uk. \nThere’ll also be some quick-fire slots on the night. \nJoin us for a night of data-based cautionary tales and share your stories and experiences. \n––– \nSchedule \n6.00 – Doors\, refreshments\, etc. \n6.30 – Event starts. \n8.30 – Close. \nCode of conduct \nEveryone is welcome at Open Data Manchester events. Please take a minute to read our code of conduct. \nRefreshments \nWe will provide refreshments \nGetting here \nHeron House is on Lloyd Street opposite Manchester Town Hall. \nAccessibility \nThere is one step from the pavement to the entrance to the building. The door staff will be able to bring out a ramp for you if required. The rest of the building is an accessible venue with a lift to all floors. \nContact Us \nIf for any reason you need to contact us on the day of the event\, you can call us on 07598 429 493. \nAny other questions? \nDrop an email to sam[at]opendatamanchester[.]org[.]uk \n\nRegister to attend on Eventrbite here.

SUMMARY:Putting people first in AI - what we've learnt
DESCRIPTION:A lunchtime online event to share what we have learnt about giving the public a say in the use of automated decision-making systems. Including launching a new set of principles created in partnership with people across Greater Manchester. \nAt this event we will share a set of principles for embedding public engagement around the use of automated decision-making systems in Greater Manchester’s public sector. These principles have been crafted based on people’s generous input through workshops held earlier in the year and we will also share what we’ve learnt along the way. \nWe also hope to bring together some other speakers who will share examples of similar work done elsewhere. \nWe will finish by collectively discussing how to encourage uptake of these principles and make them something sustainble. \nAnyone interested in this topic is very welcome. \nYou can sign up here: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/opendatamanchestercic/1108980
