Data Cooperatives Working Group – May 2022

May 16, 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm BST

Data coops written in blue and orange for the Data Cooperatives Working Group

Open Data Manchester has been championing the development of data cooperatives that can collect, use and share data on behalf of their members for some time.

The use of a cooperative structure that acts in a trustworthy, responsible and sustainable way, and aligns with its members’ interests and experience, is gaining more interest around the globe.

Over the past twelve months ODM and the Aapti Institute in Bangalore have been hosting the Data Cooperative Working Group.

It is an international collection of practitioners and academics who are exploring how data cooperatives work, and what is needed to build them and make them work.

Every meeting has a topic of focus, with everything shared openly. If you are interested in looking at how the working group is developing, the project log can be found here – Data Cooperatives Working Group progress log.

Last time, researchers from Liverpool, London and Washington D.C joined us to discuss the notion of ‘in transparency we trust’, including the practicalities of designing trusted, cooperative data systems.

The meetings are open and free, and if you are interested in participating or want more information send an email to hello@opendatamanchester.org.uk.
