Help co-design a Community Data Handbook – open session

February 23, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm GMT

Over the past year, Open Data Manchester has been carrying out community-led data collection, including local traffic counting and air-quality monitoring as part of Our Streets Chorlton.

A group of local ‘Data Champions’ has been formed, with more than 40 residents taking part in the programme, including participating in design workshops, training, data collection and monthly meetups where we explore some of the data collected.

A number of resources, toolkits and training materials have been developed as part of the programme, and we’re now bringing these together into an open ‘Community Data Handbook’.

In this co-design workshop, we’ll review the materials we have produced, then see how we might adapt and improve them so that any group of residents or community group can make use of them.

Questions we may explore include:

  • What is missing?
  • What other resources would be useful?
  • How can we make the handbook as accessible and easy-to-use as possible?

This session is aimed at anyone with an interest in helping to develop open tools for communities to collect, use and understand data about where they live.

You don’t need to be a ‘data person’ or expert to participate – we want to hear from as many people as possible! If you’re unsure whether this is right for you, or have any other questions, email sam[at]opendatamanchester[.]org[.]uk.

Open Data Manchester is a not-for-profit that aims to create a fairer world built on responsible and intelligent data use – and helps people, organisations and communities make that happen.
